College Degree at a Lower Cost (70% Less)

To fund our college bachelor's degree, we implemented a lower-cost strategy for college tuition: transfer 90 lower-cost transfer credits and alternative college credits to a university and pay full tuition for the remaining 30 credits. Since studies were completed at home, there were no extra transportation or boarding costs. The example below shows how this strategy works.

First, the student accumulates 90 credits at a low cost per unit. The lowest-cost credit units would be from CLEP testing because Modern States gives study materials and free test vouchers to take CLEP tests at no cost. Other alternative college-level classes will cost between $12 to $40 per credit. The total cost of the first 90 alternative credits at an average price of $25 per credit is $2250.

Next, the student pays full tuition for the final 30 college credits. (We completed these college credits in under a year.) Full tuition is $400 per credit, so the remaining 30 credits cost $ 12,000. In this example, the total tuition cost of the bachelor's degree is $14,250, and every student's costs will be different.

In comparison, if the student enters as a first-year student and pays full tuition or $400 for each of the 120 credits, the total cost is $48,000. In this example, the alternative dual credit program would save $33,750, a 70% cost reduction on tuition. Every student's costs will be different and will depend on many factors.
